I've decided to start a blog, following after my wonderful daughter's in law and their examples. I've only been reading blogs in blogsville for six months or so, but have regularly blogged on a family website my brother set up for us years ago on myfamily.com. It feels a bit alien to blog on my own, but I can see some benefits to it, so here goes.
I am not all that gabby, or talkative, but I do like to write.
My hubby and I love to drive, I get my quota through weekday commute and trips to see family, but he could never get enough, so he invents reasons to go no place in particular. He willingly drives an hour to get a not at all fancy breakfast, just for the drive. He likes to propose drives in the middle of the night.." wouldn't it be nice to drive down to Payson?"..he'll say, at 2:30am when he can't sleep. This is really just a slight variation from the days when we were first married and he would suggest we go camping at those odd hours. He is just that way. I know no one else who's sense of adventure is so inbred. I am happy to say that I am finally at peace with the fact that I will never be able to match his ability to be so driven to drive. Although, I have always thought that I carried a great deal of that same quality. My Dad did a fine job of instilling in his kids the fine art of the road trip. When I was seventeen and moved a thousand miles away from home, I made several trips all on my own back and forth. It just never occurred to me that it was any big deal to get in the car and go.
Inside the car behaviour is a whole different post, but I can quickly say that I am sure my hearing has suffered due to my insistence on loud, really loud, music most often when driving alone. I have mellowed into an NPR listener on the drive to work, most of the time, but I savor the drive home with my favorite music and time to unwind. I recently started sharing my commute one day a week, and the biggest adjustment, by far for me, is the lack of control of the entertainment. I like to make little changes, though, when for a worthy cause, and the environment is certainly worth it one day a week.
